State-winning Nursery/Landscape Team:
NATIONAL
FFA GOLD EMBLEM - 8TH PLACE IN THE NATION!
Brett
Barnett, Josh Bruni, Chloe Ford, and Allison Flanary of the David Crockett FFA
Chapter represented Tennessee in
the 2016 National FFA Nursery/Landscape CDE during the National FFA Convention
in Indianapolis. The team placed 8th in the National Contest
out of 42 states. They received a Gold Emblem award, which is awarded to the
top tier teams. A 8th place finish in the Nation is a remarkable feat! Brett
Barnett, Josh Bruni, and Chloe Ford won Individual Gold Emblems for their
performances.
The
contest consisted of plant identification of 116 plants, landscape estimating,
general knowledge exam, propagation, a written exercise, a verbal exercise, a
team presentation, and a team skills challenge. The contest was completed
during a mentally grilling 2 days as they competed against teams from
California to Florida.

State-winning Floriculture Team:
NATIONAL
FFA GOLD EMBLEM - 9TH PLACE IN THE NATION!
Kenzie Bastian, Troix Cox, Aisling Hagan, and Cole Tipton of the David Crockett FFA
Chapter represented Tennessee in
the 2016 National FFA Floriculture CDE during the National FFA Convention
in Indianapolis. The team placed 9th in the National Contest
out of 43 states. They received a Gold Emblem award, which is awarded to the
top tier teams. A 9th place finish in the Nation is a remarkable feat! Kenzie Bastian and Cole Tipton won Individual Gold Emblems for their
performances.
The
contest consisted of plant identification of 120 plants, general knowledge exam, propagation, floral arrangement, job interview, 1-on-1 sales, dish garden arrangement, and a
team activity. The team scored an amazing 945 out of 1000 points for their team activity. The contest was completed
during a mentally grilling 2 days as they competed against teams from
California to Florida.

DAVID CROCKETT FFA LAND JUDGING TEAM
WINS DISTRICT LAND JUDGING!
Team members Josh Bruni, Mattie Chase, Alexis Freeman, and Jordan Williams placed 1st in the District Land Judging CDE. The team beat 11 other schools in the competition. Josh Bruni was 1st High Individual.
The team placed 6th in the Regional CDE. The Regional CDE is one of the most competitive FFA events of the year.
The competition consisted of determining soil characteristics and the interpretation of the characteristics for home and crop suitability. Members are required to analyze 4 land sites by using critical thinking skills, water calculations, slope percentage, and other soil aspects.

PLACES 1ST in the DISTRICT FORESTRY CDE!
Team members are Maggie Anderson, Josh Bruni, Alexis Freeman, and Aisling Hagan.
Aisling Hagan is 1st High Individual.
- The competition consisted of tree identification, tree measurement, equipment identification, disorders identification, and
a general knowledge exam.
- The District CDE (Career Development Event) involved 9 schools from the Watauga FFA District. The State Forestry
CDE will be held in June.
- Also competing in the CDE were: Taylor Campbell, Abi Cowden, Bria Malone, Paula Malone, Madajah Manning, Sarah Sanborn, Jordan Williams, and Anna Young.
